DEEPSTATE NETWORK PUNE | Friday
At least 13 people have reportedly died and several others have been hospitalised after consuming suspected illicit liquor in parts of Pune district, triggering panic and outrage across Maharashtra. Officials confirmed that the deaths occurred within the last 24 hours, while emergency medical teams continue to monitor survivors undergoing treatment in local hospitals.
According to preliminary reports, victims allegedly consumed locally manufactured alcohol believed to contain toxic substances. Residents from affected areas complained of sudden vomiting, blurred vision, dizziness, and severe abdominal pain shortly after consumption.
Police and excise department officials have launched a joint investigation to identify the source of the liquor supply network. Multiple raids were conducted overnight, and several containers suspected of storing illegal alcohol have been seized for forensic examination.
Senior district authorities stated that strict action would be taken against those involved in the manufacture and distribution of the illicit liquor. “This is a serious tragedy. We are tracing the supply chain and ensuring immediate medical assistance to affected families,” an official said.
Health officials fear the death toll could rise as some victims remain in critical condition.
The incident has once again highlighted the persistent problem of illegal liquor operations in rural and semi-urban regions of Maharashtra, where unregulated brewing often leads to fatal consequences.
